On March 24, 2020, the Government of India ordered a nationwide lockdown for 21 days, limiting the movement of the entire 1.3 billion population of India as a preventive measure against the COVID-19 pandemic. Similar to other educators around the world, teachers in India instantly began plans to initiate virtual learning at a scale never seen before. The purpose of this study was to examine the lessons learned from Indian physical education (PE) teachers and provide strategies for leveraging what has been learned during the COVID-19 pandemic to improve the field of PE in India and beyond. The number of responses recorded in this study was 282 across the country with a response rate of 80.57% of whom 52 (18.50%) were female and 230 (81.5%) were male. The high percentage of males in this study mirrors the Indian population of PE teachers, of which the majority are male. Respondents completed the online survey of six Likert scale closed-ended statements and four open-ended questions that were the focus of this research. Mixed responses were received on the confidence level of use of technology now as opposed to prepandemic. Half of the respondents (51.24%) reported being comfortable using technology, and 44.83% reported slight confidence using the technology. The deductive and inductive qualitative analysis led to five themes: (a) effective instruction, (b) technology in teaching, (c) PE, (d) student experiences, and (e) general success. This study's results can be considered as an opportunity to revamp the curriculum of PE and include proper information and communication technology-related material in the PE teacher training courses. From July through December 2022, the National Environmental Health Association conducted a national survey of retail food regulatory professionals. The purpose of the survey was to determine the training needs of this workforce. We devoted significant effort to crafting the survey tool and aimed to gather extensive information. The goal of the survey was to enable the formulation of data-driven recommendations to shape the future of workforce development in the retail food regulatory community. The survey received a total of 2,253 valid responses, comprising 1,510 responses from individuals and 743 responses from representatives at the jurisdiction level. This collection of insights reflects a diverse range of perspectives, with regulatory professionals contributing both personal and informed responses regarding the training necessities within their specific retail food regulatory agencies. Since the closing of the survey, preliminary analysis has been done and a deeper dive into the data is in progress. The findings will be released through multiple manuscripts throughout 2024. Death is difficult--even for lawyers who counsel clients on end-of-life planning. The predominant approach to counseling clients about death relies too heavily on traditional notions of personal autonomy and a nearly impenetrable right to be free from interference by others. Rooted in these notions, contracts called 'advance directives' emerged as the primary tool for choosing one's final destiny. Nevertheless, advance directives are underutilized and ineffective because many people are mired in death anxiety, indecision, and the weight of planning for a hypothetical illness. In the end, many do not get the death they choose: to trust in others and share the arduous decision-making responsibility with loved ones. This Article proposes that lawyers shift away from a rights-based paradigm that insists clients make decisions alone, unobstructed by family and friends. Instead, it offers an alternative counseling model that draws on relational autonomy and values the inherent interplay between client independence and interdependence. Grounded in feminism, relational autonomy reimagines individualistic conceptions of self and identity to embrace our essential social and connected nature. Lawyers can enhance end-of-life decision-making to be in alignment with client goals by refocusing it from a solitary experience to one inclusive of the interests and participation of loved ones. A rapid access general surgery (RAG) pilot protocol was implemented at the Vernon Jubilee Hospital in January 2021 in which surgeons seeing patients in the emergency department (ED) could access operating time set aside once per week. Appropriate patients discharged from the ED were scheduled into this time, usually with a different surgeon than the initial triaging surgeon. Although decentralized wastewater and distributed water reuse professionals represent a key part of environmental public health and environmental engineering, an understanding of workforce challenges has remained elusive. Here we begin to address the critical need of understanding education, training, and outreach needs for decentralized wastewater and distributed water reuse. We specifically engaged professionals working in health departments and other government agencies, industry, academia, and nongovernmental organizations. We examined workforce characteristics related to education, training, and outreach. We found that 37% of decentralized wastewater and distributed water reuse professionals plan to retire within 5 years, approximately 25% of these professionals do not hold any type of certification, and education and training are insufficient to meet current workforce demands. We further report 10 problem statements associated with timely education, training, and outreach needs, which represent important opportunities for improving the practice of decentralized wastewater and distributed water reuse. Strategic education, training, and outreach activities are necessary to ensure workforce preparedness, to promote education with owners of onsite technologies, and to expand advanced training and translational research programs in decentralized wastewater and distributed water reuse.
